my second album! an attempt at fusion between new wave and the beach boys. it's got the major-key, summery melodies of the latter and the energy and sound of the former. of course, it kind of goes a little out of that by the end, but that's the general idea. we're still not past the huge reverb and heavy mixes of THE WOLVES, but the aspects of noise rock have been surgically replaced with pure, sticky-sweet summer. my experience from the first album also helped a lot. the album concludes with an ambitious prog-rock tragedy whose lyrical subject matter i just straight up stole from death cab for cutie. sorry, ben gibbard. influences: devo, the beach boys, death cab for cutie, animal collective (still,) new order, beach fossils, the drums.
