this is the first time i limited myself to a specific musical concept: in essence, i read the wikipedia page on "indie pop" and tried to make it without actually having heard any and this is what happened. i was building up a recording set up while i was making the album, leading to fairly limited instrumentation - mostly yamaha dx7, sampler, six-string bass, fender telecaster, and whatever random musical knick-knacks i could find around. this worked well with my "the more the merrier" arrangement philosophy, as the simplicity of the instruments used allowed a lot more space into the mix (naturally, i filled it with reverb.) the result is a really interesting push and pull between minimalism and maximalism. this was also my first album with a collaborator, this being a non-musical friend of mine who asked to be credited as "fezzy." he wrote the lyrics to two of the songs. influences: aphex twin, new order, the smiths, the postal service, the drums.
